C82 photo exhibit pt2 / Nature

February 2007
Here's the second installment of the mini photo exhibit at Oarhouse, the part on Nature.
1. Moonrise. The simplicity of the view reminded me of a Japanese print. The challenge was to get details of the moon with a modest 6X telephoto.

2. killerfly. Serendipity made this picture. My naked eye failed to spot the victim mayfly in the jaws of this killerfly. I only realized this when I viewed the image in my computer screen.

3. Inside a rose. Sun light hit the heart of the rose just as a small wasp gathered pollen.

4. Rainbow's flight. A rainbow lorrikeet spreads it's wings in perfect symmetry.

5.Mantis and friend. This small praying mantis was feasting on a bee it had caught and naturally invited tiny flies looking for a free meal

6. Daddy longlegs. A common house spider, the available night lamp turned it into a modern sculpture.

7. Floral arrangement. A bouquet at the local supermarket revealed elements of modern painting as the silver foil reflected the color of the flowers while it reverse red side arranged itself gracefully.

8. Metamorphosis. I was privileged to witness this cicada emerge from its ugly shell where it had been living underground for seven years to be able to sing and mate for a couple of weeks before cashing it in. I stood there taking dozens of shots until it climbed the tree in full glory. Only then did I realize I had been out in the street watching it for several hours!

9. Flight of the kookaburra. I had to pre-set the distance for this shot and anticipate it's flight. Some days you get lucky.

10.Tutubi. Dragonflies sometimes hover over the water and offer a chance for a quick snap. The afternoon sun was just right for this image.

11. Night bloomer. The night-blooming Cerus opens its fragrant petals from about ten o'clock at night to early morn and then dies.Site Meter
