Red Rock Canyon

Red Rock Canyon, Mojave, CA

For anyone who hasn't read Dan Marguilis's book 'The Canyon Conundrum' on Lab Color
(which I didn't use for this shot) he descrides a particularly challenging problem:
making a brightly lit scene have the feel that the photographer felt when looking
at the subject. I mimicked the approach here by essentially building a higher contrast
B&W image and then adding the original on top of it to get the higher contrast textures
without impacting the color. Comments on the results are certainly appreciated. -BJ

Just enough shadow to bring out those excellent patterns.

I can't comment on the technique, but the geology you've captured is fantastic.
