Burmese New Year, Chapel Hill 2009

I just happened to drive by this festival and luckily I had my camera with me. There is a community of about 400 Burmese people living in Chapel Hill and Carrboro, NC. Many I guess are recent refugees from the brutal Myanmar military dictatorship. Their New Year's day is a celebration of water and the coming monsoon season, which meant that the rain showers that fell while I was there only elevated the spirits.
