It was a pleasant day in El Hongo, and our trip down there was smooth. The clinic began with the sad news that our patient with the renal failure and elevated potassium level last month had passed away in the hospital that morning. We only knew him for a short time and we all wish that we could have helped him more. He was only 26 years old. Our thoughts are with his family; may he rest in peace. We also learned that one of our regular clinic patients was diagnosed with metastatic cancer after waking up three weeks ago and finding herself unable to walk from a lumbar fracture that was compressing her spinal cord. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, too.
Armed with great new t-shirts designed by Blanca, we saw about 30 patients and had a safe trip back to the states. We bid farewell, but not goodbye to Dr. Matt. Thank you for all you have done, and come back again soon.
