A daily tradition dating back to 1935
Every morning these ducks come down an elevator from their top of the hotel perch and are marched by their Duckmaster to the famous fountain in the lobby of the Peabody Hotel where they swim and relax in the fountain water all day long.
At exactly 5:00 every afternoon, the Duckmaster comes back and again lays out the red carpet, places a little set of stairs by the fountain, puts on a recording of John Phillip Sousa's "King Cotton", and walks with the ducks down the red carpet, into the elevator, back to their home on the top floor.
I had a spot on the floor near the elevator and really enjoyed watching and hearing them go quacking by. It was a very festive time as the lobby was jammed with everyone waiting to see the ducks.
