When we hit the open ocean after about an hour, the sea was very rough and the wind bitterly cold, so our seal hunter boatman took a slightly longer route taking us through channels on the inside of some of the islands where the water was calmer. Some of the channels were quite narrow and we had to edge our way between large chunks of sea ice in places to get through.
