The life of a mustang is not easy. They still thrive in this high desert with deep canyons and severe winters with sub-zero temperatures and snow. They are well-muscled, can run all out in the treacherous terrain, and travel miles between feed and water. The water is often in the deep canyons. These horses do not live in corrals! I have seen several lame stallions lately. Badger holes are everywhere and might be taking a toll. Also, there are more stallions here now and the competition for mares is heightened.
