My guess is the mare has been "rounded up" by BLM, branded, and released. She might have been from a different area. I use a 4-wheel drive pickup with 10-ply rated tires to get around this area. There are lots of sharp rocks that can easily penetrate a tire sidewall.

I wondered what the HB stands for? An exciting gallery, which I bet was exciting to photograph. Did you ride a motorcycle or jeep out in the area? Very fortunate to go where you could capture nice images of horses.
