Bali is known by many names: “Island of the gods”, “Island of the thousand temples”, the “last paradise”, “dawning of the world” and the “center of the universe”.
As anyone who has been there will tell you Bali's unique scenery, atmosphere of warm, flower scented air and rich, colorful culture can carry with you for a long time. The thousands of ancient temples that are scattered across the island are evidence of Bali’s deep, enduring spirituality. For the island’s three million, mostly Hindu residents, daily routines are punctuated by prayer, blessings, and rituals. It’s these traditions, even more than the spectacular landscapes, that make Bali such a compelling, authentic, and utterly singular destination. Visually this banquet of riches for photographer's makes it tough to choose what 'not' to shoot. Fifteen years after three memorable visits from Hong Kong where we lived in the 90's, I have a much anticipated return visit in the works for the fall 2012.
