Connection ? To be closer to or further away from art?

Grant Wood's painting of "American Gothic" was inspired by the modest residence building.

When I saw this paiting in Chicago, an artist was making a copy of it.

The moving direction of his left arm links the two pictures together. I couldn't help
comparing one with the other. They are extremely similar, only differ in hue.

Then came the questions: Will the reproduction become part of art? If you think of mass
production and also the style of works of Andy Warhol, you may accept the fact that even
reproduction is instilled with hard work and individuality. But how can we appreciate
the originality of the work?

Also when Van Gogh's "cafe at night" and other works are hung around hundreds of thousands of
walls in houses, are we getting closer to the purity of art?

Good title! I am a biology worker =). In science, we always emphasize on Novelty. When we start a project, we routinely check the literature to make sure the work is orignial, therefore worthy to do. However, I have different thought when it comes to art. Personally, i think all art work is individual and original. Beauty never repeats. Every art work contains its own beauty, its own sensitity and feeling from producer, even most cases, they are unknown. But you can't deny they have their own feeling of this world which reflects on their work. Everyone is unique, same with art.
