Seven colours

Jersey

Mont Orgueil, better known as Gorey Castle, is one of the best preserved and most ancient castles in Britain, occupying a dramatic position on the east of the island of Jersey and looking out across the sea to France.

Originally built in the 13th Century on the orders of King John of England, the Castle was built on its present site as sea and cliffs protected it on three sides. The Castle was added to and defences improved in the 16th, 17th and 18th Centuries, and was given to the people of Jersey in 1907 as an historic monument.
