Painted Rocks Petroglyph Site

Painted Rocks Petroglyph Site is east of Gila Bend, Arizona USA. It is a unique site having historical significance beyond the Native American rock art lavishly inscribed in this remote but prominent hill visible from miles around. There are also inscriptions made by people who passed through during historic times. Many well known events in Arizona history occurred near the site. The 1775 expedition of Juan Bautista de Anza that ended with founding the city of San Francisco, California passed this site. The Mormon Battalion and the Butterfield Overland Stage route in the 1800s also passed this site and most of the modern rock art was inscribed during stageline stops here.
