This site is located on the south side of the Superstition Mountains east of Phoenix, Arizona USA. This misnamed canyon is the site of Hohokam and archaic petroglyphs accumulated over the last 2,000 years. Petroglyphs are pictures etched into rock surfaces but are not a form of written language. Hieroglyphs are pictorial symbols carved into stone that are ancient written languages. Egyptians and Mayans developed hieroglyphic languages carved in stone. No hieroglyphs are found at this site.
