I know this place too. Super image from up the hill Dawn. My bro-in-law spent a lot WW2 stationed here guarding Northland from the invading Japanese. Can you imagine all those young NZ soldiers camped in tents - lots of rugby was played, and I think they must have done a lot of fishing too.
