The turntable is located on the alignment of the top trench. Since the last digital photo was taken of it, it has been removed, and the trench dug out under it and it has been replaced on wooden trestles. A railway first? ... a turntable in the middle of a trestle bridge?

When the top trench was being excavated, the working went like this. The wagon was lowered by the winch to the turntable, where the cable was disconnected, and the wagon turned to run down the track along the side of the trench. As this track is almost level, the wagon can be pushed by hand. Earth was being removed from the trench up to 12 metres from the "main line". This is too far to throw earth with a shovel!

When the trench is refilled with screenings, the operation will be the same but reversed.

The track now extends past the turntable to the second trench about six metres further down the hill. There is no turntable there. I am hoping to get the excavator to stock pile the earth close to the track. I will figure out how to spread the screenings along the bottom trench when the time comes. I can always move the turntable if I have to.
