What is architecture without the contributions of some great architects. I have selected to spotlight Pierre Cuypers. He is widely regarded as one of the most important nineteenth-century architects in the Netherlands. The best known of his works is the Rijksmuseum (shown above) and Amsterdam Central Station. He also built 100 churches and restored many more.
For more information see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pierre_Cuypers and http://www.archimon.nl/architects/pjhcuypers.html or "Google" Pierre Cuypers.
So why pick a Dutch architect when I could have picked a renowned architect who has works in the Los Angeles area? The reason is personal. I picked Mr. Cuypers to end this month's challenge because there is a family connection. He is my great great grandfather. I think my interest in architecture may have been passed down from him... maybe that is only whimsical thinking.
