Art of William Sitting Bull

William Sitting Bull is a great-great-grandson of the Sioux warrior and chief Sitting Bull. His paintings are spiritually, aesthetically, and historically powerful, a joy to perceive. He and his art are described in the May-June 2008 issue of Wildlife Art. His colleague Bonnie Fulford is an accomplished sculptress. Their website is http://www.starroutestudio.com/

Following a struggle with diabetes, William Sitting Bull began his crossing over on May 29, 2009. A gifted and gentle man is appreciated and will be missed. We are thankful for the gifts he had time to share.

I had the pleasure to know Bill. Met him when I lived in Estes Park in the summers. He was an inspiration to my art.He actually critiqued one of my favorite paintings.Peace to Bill and his family.

My husband and I met Billy in Estes Park in late summer, 2007. Billy's work is fantastic! I was very sad to hear of his passing but his art will live on...our prayers are for Bonnie. Maybe we will meet someday when we are in Estes. We are from Washington state, north of Seattle.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Stewart, Estes Park; three sons, Isaiah Stewart, Lawrence, Kan., Ben Stewart, Olympia, Wash., and Tobias Stewart-Rigodonza, Seattle; one daughter, Rachael Stewart, Olympia, Wash.; three brothers, Charlie Sitting Bull, Wash., Pierre Halsey, Calif., and David Bowen, Rapid City, S.D.; and six sisters, Kristy Ponce, Rapid City, Bernadine Richardson, N.C., Louise Jackson, S.C., Karry Bowen, Lawrence, Kan., Stacey Bowen, Fla., and Kathy Red Leaf, Denver. A one-night wake will begin at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 4, at St. Agnes Catholic Hall in Manderson. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 5, at the hall. Burial will be at St. Agnes Catholic Cemetery in Manderson. Memorial donations may be sent to U.S. Bank, 701 St. Joseph St., Rapid City, SD 57701. Teresa, thanks for doing this tribute to Billy. Those paintings that we have available in The Link Gallery www.linkgalleryonline.com will be sold by auction here in Cheyenne sometime soon to help Bonnie with the huge medical bills that are still coming in. We will keep you informed.

I had the most blessed privilege of meeting William through a mutual friend and sat and spoke with him for a little while a little over a year ago. He was the most phenomenal person I'd ever met. I remember being in awe of this gentle man and he had such a presence. I heard the news that he passed on today. He will be missed. So long Friend.
