the vivid mode in NX2 may be a bit over the top, but this bird does have glorious colors & the light came up a bit for this
Auto ISO has its virtues

thanks for your comment, Colin
this was taken my first days with this camera & I had a great deal to learn
I am still learning
you may want to take a look at some other bluejays that I have posted, which I think give a better sense of what this kit can do & for which I have some full resolution crops available
btw, I enjoyed seeing your sweet bird

Hi there, you have a lovely range of images on this site, but I was interested in this one as (in the UK) the only Jay's I normally see are the non-blue type! I also have a 300mm AF-S and 1.7TCII but not the D3X to go with it....

Couple of questions:
a) Is the bird slightly underexposed? I somehow expected more detail from this combination of equipment. To qualify this, here's an example taken with the D300, 300mm AF-S but not the 1.7 TCII:

b) I'm interested in the bokeh, esp. the bright branches in the background. These seem a little harsh but is this just down to full sunlight, high contrast etc or do you notice this with many other shots taken with this combination?

Please note, I am curious and not intending any criticism of your work.
