Skansen, Stockholm

Hmmm, not so wonderful with that thin DOF, but natural light isn't too great at this time of the year. It was getting dark here but he didn't want to turn on the lights yet. Oh well.

It's a wonderful picture , Anna, don't be so fussy about theDOF and the light ;^))!
I didn't know that Santa had a second part time job as shoemaker in Sweden! But no doubts...it's Santa Claus, I recognized him!

Add this to your masterpiece collection Anna.
I think the DOF is perfect emphasizing his hands and his eyes.
Such a beautiful exposure of an interesting subject - such warmth to this !

I think it's great. Sometimes the emotion of an image overrules the technical aspects. You can feel his concentration and anything other than natural light would simply not do for this. Wonderful capture. Voted.

Magnificent, I love this picture

Anna, How fortunate the shoemaker did not want to turn on the lights. It is fabulous the way it is now. The image would be less interesting with a deep DOF. It's just perfect now. I hope your cobbler liked it too. - Sandy

You have certainly mastered existing light to give life and realism to your images. While so many other photographers use flash to get "rid' of shadows, you use natural light and shadow to create mood, ambience, and meaning. And the comment about Rembrandt lighting is not far off. He brought his subjects out of the darkness into the light, and so do you.

Anna: You are becoming the Rembrandt of portraits!

I'm glad he hadn't turned on those wretced lights. I like how you've divided this photograph - one with the old man against a negative background and the other the tools of his craft superbly illuminated.

Anna, this is a perfect addition to your low light people portraits.
Just outstanding how you capture the flavour and detail of the scene.

Very nice, it has a Norman Rockwell flavor to it.

I love the low light that just illuminates his hands and face. Vermeer might have painted this scene.
