NGC 55

Loftus, NSW

A fairly nearby small galaxy, just 6 million light-years away. It is of a type similar to the Large Magellanic Cloud, with quite a lot of nebulae and star clusters, and a fairly irregular structure. A few problems with the flats and no darks is the cause of the streakiness in the background.

Canon EOS 60D
A stack of 7 x 5-minute exposures, ISO640, 750mm Newtonian on HEQ5pro, guided with Orion mini autoguider. Flats subtracted, no darks. Processed in DSS and Photoshop. full exif

other sizes: small medium large original auto
