Phillipe's French Dipped Sandwiches

1001 North Alameda St., Los Angeles, California

According to tradition the French Dip Sandwich was invented here

The Restaurant opened in L.A. in 1908 and moved to this location from seven blocks south when the 101 Freeway was constructed in 1951

It has not changed in decades

Please excuse my ignorance - but what is a French dipped sandwich?? I don't think they exist here in France.... Nice take on the topic though.

Interesting! Had no idea that they started in LA. Great retro store front.

oooh! I wonder what the inside looks like...Is it still original?

this looks like it was taken years ago with the striped awnings that were so popular.
Great angle shows off the architecture & streets as well.

I like French Dip...if the meat is tender enough. :) Must be good if they've been there forever and ever!
