Steve, there is no lens/postprocessing substitute for the natural unusual light.
The lens is very modest here: 18-55 EF-S which is the kit lens for 300D
No filters are used.
Very simple PS: straightening verticals + opening shadows + local/global contrast + USM
The scene looks basically as I have seen it in reality
