Midnight North & Walking Spanish, KZFR Benefit, Chico Women's Club, Feb. 1, 2014

Two regional bands, Midnight North and Walking Spanish, teamed up for a benefit for KZFR's Power to the Tower radio transmitter project. The show took place on February 1, 2014 at the Chico Women's Club in Chico, Calif. Led by Grahame Lesh (son of The Grateful Dead's Phil Lesh) and Elliott Peck, Midnight North showed off talented vocal and instrumental chops while performing a wide range of roots-to-jamming rock numbers. Their set included several tracks off of their debut "End of the Night" album as well as fine treatment of several covers, including Mickey Newbury's "Why You Been Gone So Long," Tim Bluhm's "Squeaky Wheel," Peter Rowan's "Midnight Moonlight," and the traditional "I Know You Rider." Sacramento-based Walking Spanish, featuring Alex Nelson, closed the show, with Lesh jamming with that band on "Shakedown Street" and "Southbound."
