This was supposed to be a shot of a departing cruise liner, a metaphor for waving farewell (or saying good riddance) to a week which had, quite frankly, been appalling. There was of course the ear infection which kept me down for the core part of the week, my server playing silly-buggers at work at the worst possible time... and of course this happened as well.
I went to take the shot with the Olympus except... it wasn't in the bag, I'd forgotten to pack it. So I went for the last of my reserves; the Samsung Galaxy.
Now elsewhere I have described the photographic quality of mobile 'phones as being "like photographic finger painting". But I have to admit that the Galaxy has occasionally pinch-hit quite well. But in this case... it was terrible. It was so terrible. The photos seemed alright on the small screen of the 'phone itself but when I finally copied them across to the desktop on the following Sunday as I started to catch up on my PADs I saw that the lines had the sharpness of melted plastic, and the colours were as accurate as an explosion at a paint factory.
However I'm not prepared to concede defeat in doing a full year of PADs a mere 55 days in, and I have taken a shot for every day so far, so I've embedded a massively shrunken version of the shot (one which looks more or less passable if you squint) into a created .jpg along with an undertaking to eventually get a similar shot, and one which is worth using this time.
A perfect end to a perfect sodding week...
