110225_130404_2254159 Looking Back From St Bede's (Fri 25 Feb)

Pyrmont St, Pyrmont

This was part contingency shot, part not. On the way back from the bank it occurred to me that I have no idea how long I'll be remaining in Pyrmont and, for the sake of memory if nothing else, it was probably time to start shooting some more of its buildings and features so that when I'm looking back from the 2014 PAD I'll be able to recall this time and these places. I therefore shot this image of two of the older buildings in the area. The one on the left, I'm unsure of. The one on the right is St Bede's Catholic Church, founded in 1867 according to the sign outside the grounds, or 1870 according to a number of web site's including the Catholic church's own one. (It's possible that the parish was established in 1867 with the church building being completed 3 years later, of course.)

Unfortunately this exposed (indeed over exposed) the limits of the Olympus' dynamic range. I had t do an EV compensation of +1/3 to be able to capture the building details in the shade, but that completely blew out the sky, the background buildings (most of which I've cropped out) and also the roof of the left hand building. This would have been a better shot had I come back when there was better light, but this is a photo a day gallery, not "a photo that occurred to me some time on a day" gallery.

I didn't deliberately intend to include the passer by when I first framed the shot, but have to admit that when I saw her there I did fire off a few frames to include her. I didn't realise that she started to look back at me until after I got the shots into Photoshop, though.

Looks like a nice neighbourhood. I like the contrast between these two buildings.
