Sydney was planned a bit haphazardly. Melbourne, on the other hand, was laid out in some detail before construction started, though where the many narrow laneways and alleys fitted into the design I'm not quite sure. (Serviceways, possibly.) However one thing about Melbourne's alleys is that a lot of them are very presentable, and many of them feature a selection of eateries. Here on Market Lane you'll find a number of Asian, particularly Chinese, places. I wouldn't mind trying some of these on a future visit, particularly the Flower Drum Canonese restaurant.
