Thank you to Steve McDonald for contributing this image of a rare Lockheed Constitution. Only two of these massive double-decker aircraft were ever built and the Navy operated them in the late 1940's and the 1950's. This aircraft sat at Opa-locka for many years and suffered a fire in the interior. The aircraft was bought by a gentleman who spent a fortune having it removed from the airport and transported to a location on the north side of NW 135th Street east of the railroad tracks, with the intention of turning it into a restaurant. Unfortunately he ran out of money before the job was complete and all work stopped. After a year or two the City of Opa-locka had the aircraft demolished because it was considered an eyesore.
