10-feb I was supposed to go birding on my own today but due to car-problems had to stay in Quito. So I didi the remaining few images from the last days on the west slope. Nothing new but some upgrades.
9-feb Four days on the west slope came to an end today. Lots of bird, few photos, BUT today's Ocellated Tapaculo at Paz de las Antpittas was worth waiting for! Also a shot of a Bronze-winged Parrot from Silanche.
I also saw that yesterday I had a staggering 5000+ page-views! By far the highest so far.
3-feb A short day-trip to the Tandayapa valley for FieldGuides yielded the usual selection of hummingbirds, fog and rain and also White-tailed Hillstar. One photo was useful - a nice male Booted Raquettail.
2-feb A few more images from the trip to Milpe. Two Woodcreepers and Tropical Mockingbirds.
31-jan Back from a short trip on my own to check up on some stake-outs and some birding. A Mottled Owl was sitting just outside my balcony at the new accomodation at the Milpe reserve early this morning. More images to come...
27-jan Bill Oehlke, a World expert on Spingidae and Saturniidae (Moths) has identified several of the images I have taken.
I have also moved the images from Napo Wildlife Center in november to their respective galleries.
14-jan A day-trip with two clients to the Tandayapa valley yesterday was nice without anything out-of-normal. In the afternoon while it rained, we enjoyed watching how the hummingbirds were taking a bath. They sit on top of a twig with tail spread, feathers fluffed up and flicking their wings and let the rain do the job.
9-jan 60 images from Salinas with many waders and terns. New for Ecuadorian gallery were Franklin's Gull and Sulphur-throated Finch. Otherwise upgrades of several species like Elegant and Sandwich Terns, Sanderling and a couple more Wilson's Phalaropes. We found a Great Grebe which is a major rarity in Ecuador with all but one record from Salinas. Also the Black Skimmer is not annual at this site. I was scouting around in the semi-desert inland from Salinas and eventually found a flock of about 40 Sulphur-throated Finches and got some shots. It is rare and erratic in Ecuador and very shy.
7-jan 25 images from the east slope in late december. With these the total for all galleries passed 1100 species and the mainland Ecuadorian gallery passed 900 species! Yellow-billed Cacique, Olivaceous Siskin, Dusky Piha, Barred Antthrush, Plain-backed Antpitta, Mourning Warbler and Large-headed Flatbill were all new for all galleries.
6-jan Happy New Year! Just a quick upload of a nice picture of a Black Skimmer from Salinas the other day. More to come from the east slope around Christmas and many more images from Salinas.
27-dec I have uploaded a few images from the last trip with some nice shots from Papallacta the first day and also some Military Macaws from Wildsumaco. More images including several new after new year.
15-dec More images from a week on the west slope in late november. Dot-winged Antwren, Black-capped Tanager and Slate-throated Gnatcatcher were new for the galleries and some of the others upgrades.
14-dec Some images from Guango lodge and Papallacta in mid-november. Gray-breasted Mountain-Toucan finally made into the galleries. And the final images from Antisana to round off a very nice trip with Gavin and Alacia from California.
12-dec A few images from San Isidro on the way up the east slope in mid-november. No new species but some upgrades.
11-dec A batch of 28 images from Wildsumaco lodge in mid-november. Just two new species for the galleries; Blue-naped Chlorophonia and Blue-crowned Trogon. Male Black-breasted Mango was also new and several other upgrades.
