18-may A day when Sweden beat Finland in ice-hockey is always a good day! Here is the second batch from the Cuyabeno trip. Harpy Eagle is by far the best shot. Black-headed parrot and Lesson's Seedeater are new for the galleries, the latter my even be the first pictures taken in Ecuador. Long-billed Woodcreeper is also new for the Ecuadorian gallery bringing the mainland up to 999 species!

16-may First batch from my trip to the Cuyabeno NP last week. No less than seven new species for the galleries and another two for Ecuador. Unfortunately the Band-tailed Oropendola didn't turn out that well, too far away. I haven't found any images on the internet of that species so I include it here. Also some nice monkey pictures. The Black-tailed Trogon completed the Trogons of Ecuador and the Straight-billed Hermit was hummingbird number 100 in Ecuador!

28-apr The images from my own trip to Lumbaqui last weekend are now up. No less than six new species for the galleries; Scarlet ibis, Violaceous Jay and poor pictures of Orange-fronted Plushcrown, Yellow-backed Tanager, Ochre-bellied Flycatcher and Golden-winged Tody-Flycatcher.
I have also organized the Galapagos gallery into Seabirds, Shorebirds and Landbirds for much better over-view.

26-apr Today I re-found the Philadelphia Vireo that I found last week and managed much better pictures. FIRST RECORD FOR ECUADOR!

25-apr A nice batch from march with my friends from Sweden, mainly coastal birds. Four new species for the galleries - Speckle-breasted Wren, Ruddy-tailed flycatcher, Pacific- and Yellow-bellied Elaenia. Those three flycatchers bring up the flycatcher total to 129 in Ecuador. May sound impressing but it is only 60% of what is observed in the country...

23-apr Some movements the last week. Wednesday last week I found a Philadelphia Vireo in the Botanical Garden in Quito - First for Ecuador! Unfortunately I only got a couple of poor images. I have also been birding in the east for a few days on my own, first twitching the Scarlet Ibis near Lago Agrio which was easy. then a couple of days around Lumbaqui where I had a migrating Swainson's Hawk plus another 15 species of raptors not counting the vultures! Then a quick visit to Archidona to try for Chestnut-throated Spinetail that I managed to re-locate. I also stopped at a site for Gray-necked Wood-Rail and got some pretty stunning shots, one is uploaded now and there will be more.

16-apr Last batch from the photographic trip. No new species but some upgrades. Again hummingbirds are in majority.

14-apr A bigger batch from the photographic trip with a Swedish couple in feb-mar. Crested Oropendola was new for the Ecuadorian gallery, the rest are hummingbirds with many serious upgrades. Nice with many hummers feeding in flowers.

10-apr Some movements in the Botanical Garden today. The Tropical Kingbird that a friend of mine found a few days ago was still there and allowed some pictures. First record for the park!

8-apr With lots of images to take care of, I will upload little by little. This batch happened to have species number 1000 for the Ecuadorian galleries!!! The celebrity turned out to be Blue-and-black Tanager at Guango lodge. As the pictures were taken on a photographic trip, hummingbirds will feature heavily, the difference is that this time many of them will be on flowers which adds an extra dimension to the pictures. A lot more to come over the next weeks....

1-apr A small update with some images from the jan-feb trip on the west and east slopes. Generally poor quality but Red-rumped Woodpecker and Slate-colored Grosbeak were new for the galleries. Two more trips to be processed...

29-mar Finally back from a trip with some friends from Sweden. Nice and with some good birds too. I had the best ever views of Andean Condor at Antisana a few days ago and there will be more than this teaser over the next couple of weeks along with many other pictures from the last trips that I haven't processed. The 1000-mark from Ecuador will be passed!!!
