Look at Those Wonderful Eyes - Joelle Wattre

Burano

This is one of the few images that one can gaze into the person behind the masks and it is one of the last images I took at this event. I really like the look of her eyes.

The mask doesn't quite sit on the face to be worn a little more comfortably for hours. Most masks put dark makeup around their eyes, or to make it more mysterious even put some kind of layer of dark cloth in the eye opening. I love shallow depth-of-field to isolate and focus on the target in most my images. Because of the separation, however, it was sometimes difficult to be selective on what you want to be in focus. This particular image focuses more on the eyes and I do have another image that focuses on the eye rim of the mask, rendering the eyes just slightly out-of-focus.
