Sunrise at Mesa Arch

Canyonland National Park, Utah

This is probably the most scenic spot for sunrise in Canyonland National Park in Utah. The view is simply gorgeous. The lower part of the arch is lit by light reflected off the surrounding reddish formation adding to the intensity of the light, making it glow. I was there the day before to scout the location in the afternoon, which was hardly worth photographing due to the different lighting condition. I woke up at 5:00AM, drove for 45 minutes and hiked for 20 minutes to capture shots like this one. But it was totally worth it. In total, there were about 15 photographers at this location that morning. Yes, I wasn't the only one that did the "sacrifice".

Is that image entirely flare free although the sun was directly within the frame? Not really, two faint flares were noted on the arch on the opposite site of the sun. Not bad for a complex ultra wide angle zoom lens. I could have cloned them out but decided to leave them there...

Excellent lighting and outstanding composition on this beautiful image. One of the best (if not the best) I have seen of this Arch.

No, the arch is still intact and will easily outlive us. It will be there for at least a few thousand years.... Don't miss it.

Is this arch gone for good? It broke down correct?

Doesn't matter how many times it's been done, this is as good as it gets! Well done! -v-

Classic shot, yet V! also for the degree of difficulty. I did not know how much work to get to the location.
