Rome, Piano Moonlight II

the City of Music in Rome / arch. Renzo Piano

I have been asked for a (one) photo that could represent my style.
I have chosen this one, and edited again the same RAW file
two years later with new tools, skills and sensitivity.

My older version

It goes accompanied by this explanation

To me, Photography is Foresight + Chance + Unconscious.

Foresight
As I didn't like the morning light, I decided to come back there in the evening feeling it would have been better. Then...
Chance
Unexpected appeared the moon. Plus...
Unconscious
The hidden wordplay on the architect's name was discovered by me one week later.
I didn't consciously see any "keyboard", while shooting.

Canon EOS D60 ,Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM
1/200s f/6.3 at 50.0mm iso100 full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

Marek, the difference is due to the fact I have changed my "vision" of things ;-)

beautiful, Adal! I see the new version was redone on CS2 (the original in PS7). Both are great... like the new one better. Since you do not "overdose" on PP, was the hue / sat and curves pretty much the only difference? Or was during the RAW conversion?

Either way, great image and such a fitting caption.

allora ho capito male...

ciao

Well first time I have seen it, so I can only comment on what I see. The red and blue, powerful together, the geometry of the shapes and how you have composed them great, and the moon makes it what it is. Without that little detail, and how it mimicks the shape of that building arc, I wonder if it would work even half as well. So as you say chance plays it's part, but all games of chance can be won, if you stack the deck in your favour. You would have had no chance of the moon in the morning ;-)

I recall this image from when you first posted it. It was great then and even better now.

Superb composition and surrealistic qualities.

Alexei, there isn't any processing in them both.
Only a different tweaking, tittivating, tuning-up or the expression you prefer.
;-)

Yes, PS can transform a nice capture into great capture. The first version looks unprocessed to my eye. I like how you improved color and opened up the shadows. Of course, the original frame has a lot of potential to work on, otherwise PS efforts would have been futile.

I think that your photographic style involves being sensitive to the serendipitous moments.

There is something of Giorgio de Chirico in this image.
Guest 19-Oct-2005 04:41
