When I purchased my Lincoln welder, I was told that the TIG-355 sat in storage at a government defense research facility for several years and not being used. Because of the long-term storage and left with standing water in the tank and cooling radiator, the core (Heat-Exchanger) of the Lincoln Square Wave Tig-355 finally gave out when we placed it back in service. Upon inspection, I was able to verify that the core was leaking in no less than four different places, corrosion from contaminated water seemed to be the culprit. The concerns while trying to fix an old radiator core like this is that once repaired, you still have an old repaired unit. Unless the entire radiator core is replaced, you will not do much to minimize further exposure to future failures. The recommended solution-- replace the old leaky core with a new factory original unit. Exactly the path I will take.

(2016/04/13) After talking to the parts department at Lincoln Electric located in Ohio, I was told that they had 30 replacement radiator core units in stock. Happy to hear the news, I proceeded to call several Lincoln Electric authorized dealers in hopes to obtain the lowest possible price. The cost for these radiators is alarming, with a $390.99 MSRP, they are NOT necessarily cheap! I can purchase an entire radiator for most vehicles for under $200, so paying twice that amount for a radiator that's 1/10 the size is insane! By the way, the part number I was giving for the new replacement heat-exchanger was '9SM16385-6', supposedly the same, or 100% compatible with the Lincoln Electric Magnum 10 Heat-Exchanger Torch Water Cooling core inside my unit.

(2016/04/14) Purchased a new heat-exchanger via Welder's Direct. The price with free Ground shipping was $365, but I opted for 2nd-Day Air delivery at $421 since I didn't want to wait a week for the part to arrive.

(2016/04/15) With great anticipation the new replacement water radiator finally arrived https://pbase.com/image/163007946, but my troubles continued... The replacement radiator is NOT dimensionally the same as expected, certainly NOT the same as the radiator inside my Magnum 10 Heat Exchanger unit https://pbase.com/9146gt/image/163007951. Not only is the core larger, but the inlet/outlet water ports are also in a totally different location, orientation. Puzzled by the obvious and noticeable differences between the old and the new replacement part, I called the Tech-Support department at Lincoln Electric and was now advised that the radiator core for my Lincoln Electric Magnum 10 Torch Heat-Exchanger has been NLA for several years, discontinued, an obsolete part! At that point it was suggested for me to buy the latest torch water cooling unit, but at around $1,500 each, this was not an inexpensive proposition. There had to be a better alternative. Disappointed, and after expending more time comparing the two parts, the good news is, I realized I could modify the new larger replacement water radiator and cabinet so that it all fits. Several internal modifications will have to be made. You can follow along and review the photo-sequence of how we made it all happen. When finished, the water-cooler will continue to look like an original factory designed installation, call it a 'retrofit'. An unexpected benefit may be that with the newer and slightly larger radiator, this very versatile and capable welder will probably receive improve water-cooling to the torch making it an even more reliable unit.
