Some GT race cars had an extra hole cut https://pbase.com/9146gt/image/89700039 in the rear trunk to gain easy access to the starter motor. Being able to get to the starter motor from the top of the rear trunk was a big convenience indeed and a time saver! I will be doing the same thing but maybe just a little bit different. Rather than simply cutting a hole and making a custom cover plate for it, why not use the same factory designed access cover? It will look like this https://pbase.com/image/89700835
To incorporate this 2nd factory access cover, one can use a section from a 914 donor car and then carefuly grafting it just over the starter motor location. This is an idea I had which will certainly be more costly and time consuming than cutting a hole and fabricating a flat metal cover for it. This is a sample "before" https://pbase.com/9146gt/image/89700039 and "after" https://pbase.com/9146gt/image/89700835
