Never mind I looked it up in my NY bird book and I was wrong but there is a type of Woodpecker that is called the Hairy Woodpecker and is less common than the Downy Woodpecker.

This accually is not a Downy. It is slightly larger than the downy and Downys have no red. It is a Picoides villosus or the Hairy Woodpecker!
