Hi and thanks for looking at my photos. I must admit I am also baffled. I've reviewed nearly 350 species of birds found in NY and can't come up with anything close to what you describe. Can you get a photo? Also, here is a website that is very helpful with their online field guides. Hope this helps!

hello...we have seen a bird that is all black with a white tuff on the head. we were wondering what bird this is. I am some what familiar but this one has me baffled. its a very preey bird for black. it has a beautiful voice calls. thank you

Hi & thanks for the nice comments. While I don't have a photo of a partridge, I do have a link to the All About Birds site from Cornell. I find it immensely helpful in trying to identify strange birds. Give it a look and see if your crested mystery bird is there! :o)

I just moved to Ballston Spa area and I am so glad we kept the trees I get to see all these beautiful birds! Your site has helped so much! Do you have one of a partridge? I have a big bird with strange feathers that look like they float on his head he travels with a female and a big raven with 2 Robins in tow,they come in the early evening .I have tried to get photos. If I get a good one I will try to post it! :-)
