Calico Ghost Town is located near Barstow, California in the Mojave Desert. Well, to call it a ghost town is streaching it a bit. It was a ghost town with only a few buildings and then Knotts Berry Farm purchased the town and built some additional buildings and turned it into a tourist attraction. What you have here is not really a ghost town but an attraction that is kind of like a western amusement park. So is it worth visiting? Well that depends. You must understand that it is not really a ghost town and a real ghost town won't have stores, resturants, mine tours, and such - but it is kind of fun in a cheesy way. If you have kids in tow, they will love it.

Calico Easrly Man Archeological Site is nearby. At this site there are current digs underway to find tools used by early people. This site is quite controversial as the tools found pre-date what most archeologist believe were the earliest humans in this area. No human remains have yet been found. I found this site to be only mildly interesting and is certainly not a must see.
