In the Clinic

Vanderbilt

("10th Update" FROM JENNIFER & BILLY on 14 Sept 2012)

Mixed Emotions…

Last Thursday we were prepared for a long day at clinic and starting the aggressive chemo treatments again. Unfortunately, Aiden's counts were too low so he was delayed a week. Starting treatments when his WBC are low is more dangerous than waiting a week to continue.

Friday was the ALL FOR AIDEN benefit our brother (in-law) Terry organized to raise funds for our cause. We were unable to attend, but heard it was a great time for all who were there. Saturday was the 3rd Bone Marrow Drive held in Aiden's honor. There was a great turn out from volunteers and people getting swabbed to be added to the national bone marrow registry. The weekend was filled with love for our sweet boy. Thank you all so much for your time, talents and generosity. We are so grateful!

Aiden had really been struggling with sleepless nights and nausea. It's been hard on us emotionally to see him so uncomfortable. Finally, the weekend brought better days/nights. He's sleeping again, which helps us all. The nausea/vomiting has subsided and he's got more energy than he's had since this all began. We've really enjoyed seeing him smile and have a desire to play again.

Wednesday was a special day, the day we had been waiting for. We got the call, there is a potential donor for Aiden! It's a complicated process, but there is a match out there, three actually! Our first meeting with the transplant team is next Wednesday. We are anxious to get answers to the many questions we both have. We want to prepare Aiden and ourselves the best we can in the coming days.

This week's trip to clinic was disappointing. Aiden's treatment was delayed again! We honestly felt like he would be ready to move forward because he had been doing so well. Unfortunately, there are no signs for low WBC/NEUTAB. His counts were lower this week than they have ever been. These are the cells that fight off infections and are nearly non-existent right now. So, we continue to wait and take additional precautions to protect him from infection of any kind.

Thank you all so very much! We Got This, all of us together!

For now please keep praying!

Praying for this little guy. I am sure he is wondering why he feels so badly.
