Life Changed...

Winterville, GA

From Dad's "Life Memories"...

"In the afternoon on Sunday December 7, 1941 we had
a baseball game going on in our front yard with the
neighborhood gang. Daddy came to the front door and
called Charles, Chandler and me to come inside and
told everyone else that they needed to go home to be
with their families. We sat around the radio and
listened as president Roosevelt declared America was
at war. I was 9 years old and my brothers would soon
graduate from high school. Life changed for everyone
that day."

My Uncle Annon had turned in his gear to go home for a hardship discharge on 6Dec1941 because my grandmother had passed away and the family needed him at home w/the family. The next day, it was cancelled. He went into Normandy on 4Jul1944. After enduring the Bulge offensive, he was KIA w/7 of his comrades in Blatzheim, Germany on 28FEB1945. Alot of families paid the price for freedom.

Thank you so much for sharing, Scott. It is wonderful that you have your Father's "Life Memories".....I really should do that. I don't have a vivid recollection of that day, but I was only five. That could be the difference. I do remember the day President Roosevelt died....
