The Abyssinian Ground Hornbill is a somewhat bizarre looking bird. It is a large bird about the size of a turkey with a lumbering flight take off. They are usually found in pairs in dry savanna and clear farm fields. The male bird has the red facial skin, the female has the blue. The photos of the female bird south of Yabello are unusually close as the pair had become separated on opposite sides of the road and were reluctant to move off.
