I here publish some more pictures, as I scanned my slides with a better scanner in 2018. That offered better light and sharpness, as well as more natural colours (I am somewhat ashamed of my very early pictures). Photoshop has improved over the years also. In particular the older slides show an Antakya that has gone, or has been “renovated” to an extent that it is hardly the same. So these old pictures, though some are of poorer quality than I now find acceptable, have some documentary value. And the rates at Pbase have gone down, so I can publish more for the same amount of money.
Though most of these pictures are marked “92” I have the strong feeling some are from my first visit (in 1992 indeed), and some are of a slightly later date (1996). The main reason is that some of the small industries (in particular footwear) had moved from the centre to a special location more to the edge of town. If I remember correctly the smiths stayed in the centre for a while longer, then moved also.
