Dec'01: Keoladeo National Park; Bharatpur

Late Nov '01 I made a trip to Bharatpur, India for a 3 day weekend visit to Keoladeo National Park - a world class park known as a winter sanctuary for the endangered Siberian Crane (of which there is one pair present this year). This was my first trip there and I highly recommend it for birding and wildlife photography. All pictures were taken with an EOS D30 and 100-400 IS lens - with various combinations of 1.4x, 2x and 550EX flash. Eurasian Spoonbills.jpg	Grey Nightjar.jpg	Savanna Nightjar.jpg Although I have this labeled as an Indian Nightjar, Nigel Cleere and Krys Kazmierczak of the Oriental Bird Club ( http://www.indiabirds.com/obc/) have carefully scrutinized pictures of this bird and have concluded that it is in fact a female Savanna Nightjar (Caprimulgus affinis). I yield to their collective wisdom and thank OBC for bringing this to my attention.	Lesser Spotted Eagle 2.jpg

Thank you for your great pictures. Am currently looking into whether to visit the park combined with a trip to Ranthambore and your pcitures have decided me. Even if we don't get to see as much as you did it is still worth giving this obviously lovely place our full support.

Ghana National Park, Bharatpur is famous for Bird Sactuary. It is located in Rajasthan. Prince Bhamji of Morvi state in Gujarat converted this area into a world famous wildlife reserve. Well I heard so much about this park, I visited on Oct 25th, 2002. Unfortunately there were no birds at all. The reason - no monsoons this year (2002). All the birds went some where else. After seeing your pictures, I have decided to try some other winter to visit this park.
