These new houses are owned by my friends, Bill Marohn and Ron Schults.
They started a real estate company called Waterfront Crossing.
The historic Lighthouse Depot building on the St. Joseph River was converted into a restaurant that eventually failed.
Ron and Bill bought the building and then traded it to the Yacht Club and the Junior Foundation Sailing School for property they owned across the street, plus other considerations.
After closing the deal, the old club and boathouse, that structurally were on their last legs, were removed to make way for these houses.
The Yacht Club has doubled their membership in their new clubhouse and the Sailing School built a new building on the river and invested the cash portion of the deal in a long visioned Endowment Fund. This allows the Foundation to offer sailing instruction and water safety, at an affordable price, to children and adults in Berrien County, Michigan.
