The City ordered residents out of houses and apartment buildings which they thought might be unsafe. Hundreds were on the list, and the "refugees" gathered at Marina Middle School to learn the fate of their homes, many of which were slated for demolition. I ran into Joe Dimaggio among those waiting to learn if their house was to be bulldozed. But in the end very few houses were condemned and most people returned to thier damaged by otherwise safe homes. I overheard a network cameraman say to his reporter "best lookin bunch of refugees I've ever seen!"
