Coconut

Kotzebue, Alaska

Proof of global warming? Or simply a "lost" coconut? This young man found this coconut on the beach in Kotzebue. The locals theorized that it had fallen from a barge which might have been in the tropics over the winter. Japanese glass floats do wash up on the beaches around Kotzebue, but coconuts are rare.

Those are fake tattoos. The kids were playing with marking pens. I've seen kids his age with tattoos in California, but it would be pretty unusual in Bush Alaska.

This one gave me pause. If you look at his arms you can see what look like tatoos. Pretty young for a kid to have a set of tat'd arms already.
