June '83 Delta Park

Plenty of identifiable riders in this photo. It was taken 29 years ago and most of those pictured are still involved in cycling. How many sports can claim that? The real reason I posted this is because my homie Dirk is at center right. I've got a picture of Franz, his dad, up already but this is the first shot I found with Dirk in it.

That's me behind and to Dirk Powell's left, the little guy on the orange bike with blue stripe on white helmet. We are coming downwind into the final turn at Delta Park probably going 30 mph. Mike Murray is not really in the front. There is a tell tale shadow of the rider he is drafting. Mike was never in the front. He and I were both the wheel sucking kings. Mike could sprint and was very good at positioning himself to come around in the final 50 meters.

Mike has me reaching for another gear here. '83 looks about right. the chrome Medici fork went onto my orange Thos Harper after a crash in '81.

Managed to catch another picture of me in the front. These sort of pictures are rare.
