Nesting in Paradise

This year we seem to have a record amount of wasp/hornet nests.
These white face hornets built a nest two feet from another nest that is a twin to this one.
Along with all the other nests they seem to be concentrated in one area between
the shop and the lodge. There must be a significant food source close by.
They haven’t created any problems so I leave them alone and
it’s been interesting to look in on them when I am out for walks.

Great shot of these fascinating wasps. These are bald-faced hornets (but they are not true hornets, rather, paper wasps, Vespidae) and generally speaking they leave you alone if you leave them alone, as you know. It is fun to watch them. V

So long as you don't have to run from them, John. I will admit that they are interesting just don't get too friendly.

allies in the end...they do help with eliminating pest species...the layers of construction material appear so appealingly in waves....just as well to leave them alone and allow them to prosper.
