Paradise Palms Golf Club grounds...I was very taken with the gardens as
you can imagine! We weren't there to play golf, the first time we
ordered a drink from the bar, the 2nd time a coffee, both very pleasant
days, as the days in the tropics (28-33dC) is what we southerners escape to
from (0-15dC) our southern winters.

All taken at this luxurious golf club.. to quote
"Located just 20 minutes North from Cairns, Paradise Palms is situated right in the heart of this adventurous,
tropical metropolis. Ideally located amongst the lush, green rainforests and serene beaches Tropical North Queensland
is renowned for. In a matter of minutes you could be on the unique Northern Beaches of Palm Cove, Clifton or Kewarra Beaches"
This is one of the delightful resorts/clubs we visited during our recent holiday
north of Cairns, Queensland, Australia. Photo taken from the club house.

At the end of the boardwalk
One comes to a sandy opening where the owners of the Kewarra Resort obviously
have outdoor activities from time to time. The first day we were there, they
were preparing for a bridal party. Accommodation is available on site and the
wonderful restaurant/cafe area is open - not enclosed by windows, and surrounded
by wonderful tropical plants and fabulous views.
I have agreed to take part in the September Challenge and will continue with
this gallery at a later date.

Boardwalk amongst the palms
A beach south of Clifton has this magnificent resort where we had a
wander followed by afternoon tea. These beaches are bordered by the Coral Sea
and the Great Barrier Reef, though Dick & I didn't venture out to the reef
ourselves, our daughter, husband and friend did. Inland from the beach
was in the past sugar cane country and only developed as a suburb of Cairns
as late as 1980.

Bush Stone Curlew nesting
A pair of curlews were sitting on 2 eggs right alongside the barbecue. Each
time we used the barbecue one of the parents sat just like this and never
made any attempt to move away. The other parent hovered close by. They
are nocturnal birds as you can see by the eyes in this photo, and we often
heard them calling to each other during the night. An egg hatched the day
after we left, but our daughter and husband were there to see the little chick.
Only one egg hatched, the other was discarded. According to notes on Wikipedia,
these birds always sit on the ground incubating their eggs, and the birds
are commonly found in the north of Australia.

Light on the Limb (or Nature's Statue)
I was very taken with the light on the fallen limbs of the tree on this
particular afternoon walk...

My daily walk along the seashore
We all enjoyed the wonderful walkway that follows the northern beaches of Cairns.
This particular section fronts Clifton Beach where we spent a glorious 2 weeks
basking in their beautiful tropical sunshine. What a shock when we arrived home
(central-south of Australia) to the huge drop in temperature, which was of course
to be expected, as we are still in the Winter season down here!

Moon on the sea
The photo of the scene we all waited for to see as we shared the moment with a kiosk full of
patrons enjoying a light meal, wine and beer.

Kiosk from the Beach
I walked down to the beach and looking back this is what I saw;
all very romantic on a balmy tropical evening...
