Saint Gall, Switzerland

A UNESCO World Heritage Site. A serene and beautiful place, with a voluminous cathedral in the middle. With light pouring in on all sides, the cathedral is a sight to behold and one of the largest we've seen. An abbey is is a Catholic or Anglican, monastery or convent. Abbeys are typically under the authority of an Abbot or an Abbess, serving as the spiritual father or mother of the community. Around 613 an Irish monk named Gallus, a disciple and companion of Saint Columbanus, established a hermitage on the site that would become the monastery. Today, the abbey holds one of the richest medieval libraries in the world.
