Perhaps Tōhoku's most celebrated festival (and quite possibly its most crowded), the Aomori Nebuta Festival is famous across the country for its highly decorated, three-dimensional floats of samurai warriors, battle scenes and folklore demons. Held every August from the 2nd to the 7th, its centerpiece is a night procession of dancers and nebuta floats, with a day parade and evening bay-side event reserved for the final evening. With a crushing attendance of several million every year, the Nebuta Matsuri sees Aomori's accommodation network stretched to the limit, but its festivities are among the most unique in the country.
